Summer Day Camp!

Kids Daycamp

Over 80% of children know how to ride a bike, but very few understand the essentials of navigating safely in traffic. Our commitment is to your child's well-being, encouraging physical activity while instilling vital safety skills. This approach increases your peace of mind regarding your child's growing independence.

Objective:

Young cyclists learn to ride for transportation and/or recreation on residential roads. This camp covers all theory and practical components of the Intermediate Kids course. Participants will ride up to 25km per day.

Location:

Monday & Tuesday's drop-off and pick-up location is the Rose Kohn Arena: 502 Heritage Drive SW.

Wednesday through Friday we begin & end at the Haysboro Community Association: 1204 89 Ave SW.

Course structure:

  • Minimum age: 9 years (no exceptions).
  • 3-6 participants per Instructor.
  • Participants must supply their own properly fitting bike in good working condition and current, certified bike helmet. (A bike with gears is highly recommended but not required.) We recommended participants attend a bike fit & skills evaluation session prior to the course start date.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, snacks and water bottle each day.

This is a multi-day course; all sessions must be attended in full. We cannot accommodate participants for the remainder of the camp if any part of a day is missed. Course runs rain or shine; be prepared for the weather! Please note that courses have a minimum necessary to run: if a course does not meet the minimum, participants will be offered a spot in a different week or given a full refund.

Participant pre-course skills evaluation

In order to attend this course, participants must already have the following cycling abilities:

  • Start independently
  • Balance and pedal for at least 50m
  • Stop using the brakes on the bike (coaster or hand brakes are acceptable)
  • Turn left and right
  • Ride with right hand only (left hand off the handlebar) for 3 seconds

We recommended participants attend a bike fit & skills evaluation session prior to the course start date. A discount will be provided to attend the Novice course if skills are lacking during the evaluation. We reserve the right to remove a participant from the course if their equipment, knowledge or skills are inadequate to continue or their behaviour endangers themselves or other participants. No fee adjustment will be available.
