Get Ready For Summer!

Ensure Your Bike Is In Good Working Condition

At the beginning of every bike season, it's important to make sure your bike is in good working condition. Fixing small problems and doing general maintenance can avoid hassle, headache and big problems that can cost a lot later.

February might not feel like the right time to get your bike ready, but it can be an excellent time to figure out what you need, so you can order parts, source accessories or tools or learn how to do things before the rush of spring: do the work now, and you won't have to wait to get on your bike once spring arrives! See our maintenance page for great resources to get you started.

February can also be a great time to seek out professional help, as a number of bike shops offer winter specials and all of them should have a quick turn around time: why wait when you can save money and get your bike back quickly?
Shops that have advertised winter specials:
Other shops may have deals, too, so don't hesitate to ask. See the maintenance page for a list of bike repair shops.

Safer Cycling Calgary Is Hiring!

There are some courses we simply can't run without help, and capacity is limited in others without additional staff to teach.

We are hiring for 2024!

If you, or anyone you know, meets the following, please apply!
  • 16 years of age or older;
  • Has, or are willing to get, a bike (properly fits you and is in good working condition);
  • Strong English language skills;
  • Have, or are willing to get, a Vulnerable Sector police clearance (you will be working with kids);
  • Available for weekends May through August AND/OR select weekdays in July & August;
  • Willing and able to transport your bike to Haysboro SW (work location).
In addition, you will have already taken the Advanced course or equivalent (ex CAN-BIKE Level 4, LoAB Smart Cycling). Note this is not training for the job, but a required prerequisite, like needing to have taken Lifeguard courses to be hired as a Lifeguard, or have a driver's license to be hired as a delivery driver. If you do not have this prerequisite, you can take the Advanced course for 50% off.

Bold Helmets

Religious headwear, such as the patka, can interfere with the use of a helmet. Now in a larger size, Bold Helmets continues to prioritize safety without sacrificing religion.

Shimano Recalls Cranksets

More than 80,000 of the recalled cranksets were sold in Canada between January 2012 and August 2023, both separately and pre-installed on some bikes. Only units showing signs of problems will be replaced.
